Form and content #5

I found this image in an issue of CmYK magazing. It is an article about type specimens and it shows examples of good use of type. The article itself is interesting because the type is spread out in blocks and changes from horizontal to vertical. The use of a dominant subdominant and subordinate type size also helps make the piece intersting.

Form and Content #4

I found this image in a CMYK magazine. It acts as a contents page for the magazine issue. Not only does the piece work as a whole but it also works as individual elements. This is because each individual type face is a strong design element by itself with the use of a dominant figure as a title and the subdominant and subordinant pieces undernieth. The piece works as a whole because every type face has a hand drawn look that makes the entire page fit togetether. Also, the entire piece varies the size of the different type faces which makes the entire page interesting to look at along with the variations in color and the slight variation of the hand written type faces.

form and content #3

I found this image is a CMYK magazing issue dedicated to typography. This piece is done for a company that ships your luggage safe and soundly to its destination for you. This piece is visually interesting because the type acts as a visual replacement for steps or stairs that the luggage is falling down which is what the entire piece is about. The type its self is intersting because it verries in size and boldness and it has a nice shaddow gradient on it that makes it look 3D.

Form and Content #2

I found this piece in the International Designers Network Magazine. It's presented in the context of an entire separate piece from the one that it ties into. The piece is about typography versus human proportion and the images are of a girl bending her body to try and mimic the shape and form of type faces. the piece is visually interesting because its not everyday that you see someone bending their body to mimic type faces and because the type is broken up to show emphasis in the size and boldness and unity in the smaller type faces at the bottom of the page. The size and proportion difference gives the piece a nice rhythm that makes it easy for the viewer to follow and read.

Form & Content

I found this piece in the International Designers Network magazine and the piece is done in the context of recycling and going green. The connection between the content and form is the way the map of the world is utilized as a mask in the type itself. The map is showing through the words, “Designers make the world’s most beautiful trash.” It gives the meaning of the text a bigger impact on the viewer and makes it blatantly clear what the idea is that the designer is trying to get across.
Furthermore, the piece is visually interesting because the designer took out all of the fully enclosed counters in the type and that lets the green of the map have more space to fall on and it really makes the letters stick out because it’s a little different and you notice it right away. The designers’ emphasis is definitely on the text because it is a lighter color with a drop shadow and also has a green map showing through it, which makes it jump out from the background because the background is a very dull earth tone and the map and trash can take on the dull earthy tone as well. The text is also the largest part of the over all design. However, even though the text pops off of the background the whole design is united because the map is in the background as well, it’s just dulled down.
Moreover, The type is integrated with the image in the design because the type and image are united as one. The designer uses emphasis and unity to create a complete and intriguing design and it really makes the viewer or reader realize what kind of impact the designer intended you to feel when you looked at this image.
